Liverpool fell behind in their Premier League opener against Fulham this afternoon.

It was an ideal first game of the new season for the Reds, who finished runners-up in both the Premier League and Champions League last season.

Given that the Cottagers are a newly promoted team, three points were highly anticipated for Liverpool.

Marco Silva’s side didn’t stick to the script though and Aleksandar Mitrovic’s brilliant header went past Alisson in the 33rd minute to give the hosts a stunning lead.

Mitrovic got the better of Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and fired a header onto the post.

The 23-year-old struggled to get off the field to challenge the Serbian striker and Jim Beglin has criticized the England international’s defence.

He said stay alive Opus Sport: “I think ‘jump’ for Alexander-Arnold. Stand up don’t let him bully you, don’t let him wear you down. Alexander-Arnold never really fought for it.”

Fulham and Liverpool

Liverpool, who have an £85m striker on the bench in Darwin Nunes, can and will certainly be much stronger in the second half.

It was a disappointing first half, especially considering how well they looked in last week’s Community Shield win over Manchester City.

But Klopp will no doubt have his squad more motivated after the break, as an opening week defeat against a club that has just returned to the Premier League would not be a good sight at all.
