Mikel Arteta has praised Ben White after his performance at right-back in Friday’s win over Arsenal.

The Gunners kicked off their Premier League season with a 2-0 win away to Crystal Palace.

William Saliba was at his best in central defense in his long-awaited competitive debut for Arsenal, having joined three years ago.

Given his starting position, Arteta was forced to use Weiss in an unfamiliar role at right-back.

However, the Spanish boss was full of praise for his £50million signing last summer, claiming he has the “ability” to impress in a variety of roles.

He said London football: “He did really well. We know individually how hard it is to get the ball off him, he’s annoying, the way he plays to play is really difficult and we have to talk about that. Ben’s ability to play “He has different positions and that’s a big plus for any player and he really enjoys playing there.”

Gary Neville said before Arsenal’s win that Saliba had already achieved with the likes of Ben White being moved to replace him.

And he is right.

It’s a big feather in Saliba’s cap and it will be interesting to see what happens when Takehiro Tomiyasu returns from injury, which could be as early as next week.
