Matt Johnson, Alison Zigler selected as Big Sky Scholar Athletes

University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball and women’s track were represented by Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Senior Matt Johnson and junior Alison Zigler earned varsity honors.

A two-time All-Big Sky selection, Johnson helped the team to the semifinals of the Montana State and College Basketball Invitational in the 2021-22 Big Sky title game. He earned his BA in Psychology and will return to Greeley this coming season, using his final year of eligibility.

Ziegler competed for the cross country and track and field teams. He has already earned his bachelor’s degree and completed his studies in Sport and Sports Science. In addition, Zigler is one of six honorees with a 4.0 career GPA.

The Big Sky recognizes students from each member school, one from the men’s program and one from the women’s program.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be members of the graduating class for the academic year or have exhausted their eligibility, have a 3.2 GPA, participate in a Big Sky-sponsored sport at their respective institutions for at least two years, and be a letterwinner.

Soccer player Maddie Barkow and football player Darren DeLaCroix earned the honor last year.
