A funeral was held for the Roblox “oof” sound effect
A quick turn of events occurred on July 26, 2022, when players noticed without warning that the “Oof” sound had been replaced by another sound.
Players’ worst fears were confirmed when Roblox’s Twitter account confirmed the change and explained why.
This led to a series of Twitter trending terms such as “#SaveTheOof” and “#Big OOF”, and fans even petitioned Roblox Corporation to buy the rights to the sound effect so they could use it legally.
After initial complaints and an understandable lack of acceptance, the community realized that the ending was “ugh”.
After many players responded positively to the idea, the RBXNews Twitter page decided to host an “OOF Funeral” to commemorate the sound’s presence appropriately.
The page announced that anyone who wants to attend the funeral cano Do so on July 28, 2022 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm ET / 9pm CET.
This isn’t the first funeral for the game, as we recently saw Red Dead Redemption 2 players come together to announce the end of Rockstar’s support for Red Dead Online.
It’s undoubtedly the end of an era, but OG Roblox players will always remember the impact “OOF” had on the game as well as other social media.
The game will continue to thrive in its absence thanks to the abundance of spin-off games like Roblox Pet Simulator X and Roblox Sonic Speed.
