Leah Shirley, daughter of teenage mother Amber Portwood, is devastated after a judge ruled that Andrew Glennon has sole custody of her 4-year-old half-brother James.
The decision means Glennon James can move from Indiana – where Portwood and Shirley live – to California, where his family is based. The judge asked Glennon to consider Portwood’s opinion when making important decisions in James’ life. Sun.
Before Portwood made an official statement on her verified Instagram account, she shared Leah’s feelings on the family matter in a reply to a fan.
He has been sober for years, Portwood said
In another unfiltered statement, Portwood said James would be hurt by the court’s decision.
“I did everything necessary, including weekly therapy and medication adjustments.” Portwood wrote. I have been mentally stable for years. There is nothing wrong with attacking someone with a mental disorder, especially if they have been clean of substances for several years and have fully addressed any wrongdoing.
Portwood has been fighting for custody of James since he pleaded guilty Two crimes for domestic violence and intimidation after his arrest in July 2019. He was sentenced to nearly three years of probation, during which he completed 21 negative drug tests.
Portwood was released on parole in April 2022 after paying more than $1,000 in fines and serving a six-month domestic violence course. Sun.
James will suffer the most, Portwood said
Portwood concluded that her 4-year-old son would be the most affected by her loss of custody.
“It’s sad and my son will be the hardest hit because our lives are falling apart.” Portwood wrote. “It is not right to assume everything is right because it is not. “I don’t feel good about this anymore because none of this is good.”
Portwood said he has taken every step to improve.
“When you’re changing and you’re stable and you’ve proven yourself, that’s important,” the Teen Mom OG alum wrote on Instagram. “It’s a loss to all mothers who change for peace and love in their children’s lives… only to have it taken away after years of fighting for something.”
Portwood feared he would miss James when he moved to California.
This will be a tragedy for many people and my poor boy now needs to know where his mother is. “This boy absolutely adores me and I have developed wonderful relationships with my children today and am very present in their lives.” This is by no means a win for my son. I pray for him and the sadness and confusion he will have.”
Although Portwood has provided extensive reporting on the situation, Glennon made only a brief statement.
“We survived this nightmare,” he said E! News. “Now we can live the dream.”
