Donating school supplies to needy students in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – Shopping for school supplies is getting more and more expensive City of Austin wants to help

Every summer, city staff use their money to buy school supplies to help Austin students in need. Over the past 16 years, employees have donated about 13,000 backpacks, the city said.

On Friday, July 29, staff will bring school supplies and backpacks to City Hall. About 20 Austin ISD Elementary and middle school students pick them up between noon and 1 p.m

The remaining donated backpacks and supplies will be distributed during the service week at select AISD schools, the Gardner-Bets Juvenile Center and AISD Refugee Services, the city said.
