The Greeley-Evans School District is hosting a commencement ceremony on August 6

Greeley-Evans School District 6 will host its annual Commencement of School Community Celebration from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Grove Island Event Center in Greeley.

According to a news release from the school system, District 6 and its partner, the Success Foundation, have raised enough money through sponsorships and donations to donate more than 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies.

Backpacks are only given to students in grades 6 through 12. The backpack giveaway will start promptly at 9am

There are a variety of backpacks and supplies for elementary, middle, and high school students. Students must be present at the party to receive the backpack.

The names of the students are checked with the registration lists. If students are not registered in District 6, event registration must be completed through the District 6 Registrar’s Office prior to providing the backpack.

After the student’s registration is confirmed, they will be given a ticket to receive the backpack. All students who receive a ticket are guaranteed a backpack.

All students will receive a free individual bag of food through District 6 Nutrition Services to take with them when they leave the event.

More than 50 community booths will be open during the grand opening, with information, services and entertainment for students and their families.

Greeley West High School FFA students will also have a petting zoo, as well as carnival games, emergency vehicles, a District 6 school bus and other activities for families.

The Department of Public Health and Environment of Wold County will also have representatives on site to provide free vaccinations to the needy students of District 6.

Low-cost sports and physical registrations will also be available. Families may receive information about schools, district programs, register students for school, and complete a free and reduced lunch program.

More than 150 volunteers help make the event happen, doing everything from stuffing backpacks to handing out food and helping keep traffic flowing.
