AUSTIN, Texas – Police are investigating a fatal crash in southeast Austin early Wednesday morning.

Austin-Travis County EMS First said It was just after midnight when medics, along with the Austin Fire Department and Travis County Fire Rescue crews, arrived at the scene of a two-car, single-car crash. CPR was being performed on one adult patient and two others were being extubated.

The overturned car was a Chevrolet and the other was a Dodge, according to an affidavit obtained Thursday by KVUE. A passenger in the Chevrolet told police the Dodge was driving at a high rate of speed, the affidavit states. Police said it appears the Dodge hit the driver’s side of the Chevrolet.

Police arrested 28-year-old Randall Cavazos, the driver of the Dodge, on suspicion of intoxicated manslaughter. At the scene of the crash, Cavazos’ “eyes were red and bloodshot, his clothes were in disarray, and he smelled strongly of alcohol,” the affidavit states.

The affidavit also says Cavazos failed to cooperate with several field sobriety tests.
