Big Sky SAAC names Jackson from Colorado’s North Woods to leadership roles

Two University of Northern Colorado athletes have been selected to serve on the Big Sky Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

Junior soccer player Cassidy Woods and senior swimming coach Sarah Jackson were named conference council president and vice president, respectively.

Woods and Jackson will be joined by Sacramento State gymnastics’ Carissa Hoffman and Idaho State track and field’s Tenley Smith as co-secretaries.

SAAC chapters are designed to help student-athletes succeed in their sport, in the classroom and after college. They also work with athletic administrators at all levels to ensure that the student-athlete experience is heard and considered in decision-making.

This past year, Woods served on the UNC Advisory Council as coordinator of university outreach and Jackson as department chair.

Earlier this summer, Woods was named to the College Football Players Association Leadership Committee, which is designed to organize current, future and former players and provide input to governing bodies. The association wants to make sport safer and better, give players support off the field and help athletes advocate for change.

He has been an outspoken advocate for player associations and similar organizations such as SAAC to ensure that student-athletes are represented in all areas of athletics.

The leadership committee is expected to serve for the upcoming school year.
