Shania Twain opens up about her battle against Lyme disease in her new Netflix documentary, Not Just A Girl.
Twain previously revealed that she contracted the bacterial disease after being bitten by a tick while riding a horse in Norfolk, Virginia in 2003.
The infection left the country star with nerve damage to her vocal cords. She temporarily lost her voice but was afraid that she would not be able to perform again.
Twain said in her recent rock documentary, “My symptoms were very frightening because before my diagnosis I was on stage very dizzy. I was losing my balance, I was afraid to fall off the stage.”
The 56-year-old added, “I was having very, very, very, very good blackouts in the millisecond, but on a regular basis, every minute or every 30 seconds.”
As the Queen of Pop admitted, “My voice isn’t the same again.”
Twain then went on to remember, ‘I thought I lost my voice forever. I thought it was, [and] I will never sing again.
The hitmaker, The You Still The One, underwent multiple throat surgeries after developing dysphonia.
Back in 2019, Twain admitted in an interview with Extra, “I had to have surgery that was very intense and it’s an open throat operation, very different from a vocal cord operation. I should have had two of them, so that was really, really hard and I’ve survived it – meaning I survived emotionally – and I’m totally ready to keep going.
