Ashley Judd opens up about her late mother Naomi Judd’s battle with mental illness in the wake of her suicide.

Ashley Judd talks about her mother’s suicide

Ashley Judd recently appeared on The Healing audio notation Hosted by grief expert David Kessler.

The bifurcated star has been upfront about her mother’s suicide as she made it clear how she handles the pain.

Judd recalled during the interview, “I looked back at my childhood and realized that I had grown up with a mother with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness. And there are various behavioral expressions, interactions, imaginary trips, choices she made and I understand they were expressions of illness.

She added, “I understand that and I know she was in pain and today I can understand that she was absolutely doing her best, and if she could have done it differently, she would have done it.”

The 54-year-old actress also said that although she “didn’t cause” her mother’s illness, she knows she “can’t control it” and “she can’t cure it”.

She continued, “My most ardent wish for my mother was that when she moved, it was hoped that she would undo any guilt or shame she had for any shortcomings she might have had in raising my sister and I.”

Judd then continued, “For surely on my part, all was forgiven long ago, all was long forgiven.”

Renowned country musician, The Double Jeopardy, was found dead on April 30, 2022 from gunshot wounds after years of mental illness.

Naomi’s daughters, Ashley Judd and Winona Judd, announced her death, saying that she died of “mental illness”.

They wrote in a joint statement, “We are devastated. We are dealing with a deep heartbreak and know that just as we loved her, her fans loved her. We are in uncharted territory.”

Meanwhile, Wynonna and her mother, who consisted of a music duo called The Judds, were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville the day after Naomi’s death.

However, Ashley joined Winona to accept the honor and pay tribute to their mother.

The Double Jeopardy star said, “My mom loved you so much and I’m sorry she couldn’t stand it until today.”

She added: Your appreciation for her and your appreciation for her really penetrated her heart. It was your love for her that kept her going in recent years.
