The New York Giants put three players on the Physically Unable (PUP) list as training camp officially opened on Tuesday.
Offensive lines Nick Gates and Matt Burt, and wide receiver Sterling Shepherd from the roster can be activated at any time during camp. If they remain in the PUP with the regular season opening, they will be required to miss at least six weeks.
Gates suffered an ugly broken leg in the second week against the Washington captains a season ago. He underwent multiple surgeries and although initially worried about his future in the NFL, there now appears to be a growing optimism that Gates Could be back early this season.
Burt ruptured his ACL during the Week 16 game while Shepherd ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 15 and may not be available until later in camp. The hope remains that he will be ready to play in the first week, but that is far from certain.
Giants also formerly Daniel Bellinger put a newbie (hurry up) tight end on the PUP list.
Finally, the arrogant giants put Aziz Ogulari on the non-football-related injury (NFI) list due to a hamstring problem.
All four players will remain on the Giants roster of 90 players.
Notable players who did not make the PUP roster include linebacker Blake Martinez, corner back Rodarius Williams, offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and wide receiver Kadarius Toni.
