WA COVID hospital numbers are dropping again, but Prime Minister Mark McGowan warns that the worst Omicron winter wave is coming

The number of Western Australians hospitalized with COVID continues to decline – it reached 432 on Monday – but Prime Minister Mark McGowan warned that the decline was ‘not final’ and that the Omicron winter wave was still expected to start next month.

Only 3,856 new infections were reported overnight while 24 people were receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and four more deaths were recorded.

Mr McGowan joined a quarter of eligible Western Australians who have now received a fourth dose when he rolled his sleeve at the vaccination clinic at Maddington Central shopping center on Monday.

He said maintaining high levels of enhanced coverage was the best way for Western Australia to protect themselves – and the health system – this winter.

“We know that people who have not received COVID vaccines are 27 times over-represented in the hospital due to … COVID diseases,” he said.
