Lynette beat Mertens at the Prague Open

Third seed Elise Mertens was eliminated from the Prague Open after losing her first round match to unseeded Poland’s Magda Linette 3-6, 6-2, 2-6.

Monday’s victory was Linnet’s first against her Belgian opponent after three defeats.

She will then face Daria Snegur or Victoria Tomova in the second round of the Outdoor Hard Court Championships.

Sixth seed Alison van Uytvanck retired due to an injury when she was 5-2 behind in her first round match against Dalila Jakubowicz. The Slovenian will play with China’s Qiang Wang, who defeated Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (47-).

Czech eighth seed Marie Bozkova, who reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals, beat Austrian Sinja Krause 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).

Lin Chu, Nao Hibino, and Chloe Paquet also performed.

Estonian top seed Anett Kontaveit opened her campaign on Tuesday against Georgia’s Ekaterin Gorgodze.

At the Polish Open in Warsaw, Brazilian Laura Begosi beat Russia’s 9th seed Varvara Gracheva 6-2 6-4. French No. 5 Caroline Garcia, the only other seed, beat Japan’s Misaki Doi 7-5, 6-4.
