1 person killed and 3 wounded in separate shooting around the same time in Lowndale, Burnside

A man was killed and three others injured in a separate shooting at around the same time Thursday night in Londal and Burnside.

Chicago police said two men, aged 30 and 27, were outside around 11:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Independence Street when they were shot.

Police said the older man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced dead. He was identified as Keejuan Jones, 30, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Officials said the young man was shot in the thigh and taken to Stroeger Hospital. It is listed in reasonable condition.

There have been 11 murders recorded in North Laundle so far this year, according to data maintained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The community recorded 31 murders in the same period last year.

At about the same time, two women were hit by a gunfire about 17 miles away in Burnside.

Police said the women were traveling in a car on the 9200 block of South Greenwood Avenue when they were shot.

Police said a woman, 18, was shot in the leg. A 23-year-old woman was injured in the face.

Officials said the two women were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they are listed in good condition.

None of the attacks was under arrest.
