A volcano has erupted on the Japanese island of Kyushu called Sakurajima.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the volcano erupted at 8.05pm local time on Sunday.
NHK public television said there were no immediate reports of damage, but there were reports of volcanic rocks falling within 2.5 km of the volcano.
NHK said the eruption alert level has been raised to 5, the highest level, with some areas advised to evacuate.
Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan, and eruptions are frequent at varying levels. In 2019, ash was released to an altitude of 5.5 km.
