Give. I. relaxation. With this week’s baseball quiz

Well, gang, three things are making me a little crazy (or crazier than usual): 1. Excessive use of exclamation points. If I really wanted to be funny, I’d put an exclamation point at the end of that sentence, but how can you take me seriously? (I’m fine with the question marks). 2. The phrase “He was just triple shy on the course.” You know how likely you are to get a single, double or home race, and how unlikely you are to get a triple, right? 3. Refer to the portion of the season prior to the All-Star Game as “the first half of the season”.

Write about the statistics. And while I’m not a math genius, I do know that heading into the All-Star Game, the Cubs were 35-57, which equates to 92 games, the first 56.7% of the season. And I know that heading into the All-Star Game, the White Sox was 46-46, which also equates to 92 games, and I know 56.7% of the season is more than half.

So when you hear your favorite sports announcer or broadcaster talking about the lead-up to the All-Star break as “the first half,” say “Give me a break,” and then have them give you a Kit-Kat tape.

Today’s questions relate to the time period prior to the All-Star Game. Enjoy your own Kit-Kat bars.

Here is your background:

The White Sox doesn’t walk enough. In the break, they tied with the Pirates in 25th place in the major competitions. Then again, the cubs probably walk a lot. At the break, they were second in the majors in walking, only one behind the Dodgers. This is important because while the cubs had a hit average of 244 and the Sox had a hit average of 0.257, the cubs had a better base ratio (0.319 to 0.311).

8. So BTB, which White Sox player hasn’t drawn a walk in the most matches?

a. Tim Anderson

B. Jose Abreu

c. Yuri Garcia

Dr.. Louis Robert

9. So BTB, which Cubs player has made the most walking trip in the most matches?

a. patrick wisdom

B. Wilson Contreras

c. Ian Hap

Dr.. Rafael Ortega

the answers

1. Sox hit 0.270, which is good for third in the majors and peaks in AL. The Cubs hit 0.220, are 29th in the majors and only better than the Buccaneers. When he’s healthy, Eloy Jimenez runs with the RISP, scoring .471 (8 vs. 17).

2. Cubs had an additional 262 hits, good for 14th in the majors, and Sox had 246, at 21st. Sox ‘Jose Abreu and the Cubs’ Patrick Wisdom led Chicago with 35 each.

3. The Cubs walked 313 hitters, the sixth-largest of any team, Sox walked 332, the fifth-largest player in baseball. Dylan has to stop walking. Chicago led with 48.

4. The Cubs allowed 50 runs in the first half, and placed 13th in the majors, but the Sox allowed 59, tied with the Royals for fourth in the majors. Michael Kubisch allowed 12 runs (nine earned him) and Kyle Hendricks allowed 11 runs (all earned).

5. In 13 such matches, Patrick Wisdom went 3 for 11 with 10 RBI. In seven appearances on the boards, Andrew Von went 5 for 7 with 10 RBI. While the answer is “same”, Vaughn is the guy you want in these situations.

6. Andrew Vaughn totaled 20, Wilson Contreras and Jose Abreu each had 26. The wise choice was Patrick Wisdom, who slammed 29.

7. Lance Lane suctioned 140 ejectors. Kyle Hendrix hit match number 146. Lucas Giolito hit 227. But the man who should have been the All-Star in 2022, Dylan Cess, had 267 hits.

8. Tim Anderson has not run in 54 matches, Jose Abreu in 55 matches, Yuri Garcia in 57 matches and Luis Robert in 62 matches. But the Chicago leader was Nico Horner, who hasn’t run any walks in 64 games.

9. Rafael Ortega pulled 25 games, Wilson Contreras at 31, Patrick Wisdom at 34, and Ian Hap at 37 to lead Chicago.

Bob Ryan and I will speak at the Hall of Fame on August 3rd. I hope to see you there. Enjoy the last 43.3% of the season eating your Kit-Kat bars.
